June, 2016

This was the gentleman, Harry Frost, who received a QOV made by our guild.

The other four recipients were brought in from outside.  Leslie and I had a great time. It was very nice. Harry was a character, married to a German gal, Lena. They both live at the manor.  Lena is from Germany, she survived the Holocaust. Harry had more concern for what she went through during that time than his own 7 years. It really humbles you fast when you hear their stories, and makes what we are doing so very worthwhile. We honored five persons that day with Elayne Gassett. Elayne is the national QOV coordinator for the longarm quilters. If anyone is friends with persons from Nevada, there are 10 veterans residing at the Manor who could sure use quilts.

Quilts of Valor Presentation
Iowa Veterans Home

Saturday, April 23, 2016  1:30 PM

Several quilts will be presented to Veterans residing at the IVH.  These quilts have been made by guild members and other groups and individuals in Central Iowa.

Quilts of Valor Program, August, 2015

Susan Body of Polk City gave an informative Quilts of Valor program to the Central Iowa Quilt Sew-ciety at the August meeting. The QOV foundation was started in 2003 and has given over 122,461 quilts to cover service members and veterans touched by war with comforting and healing Quilts of Valor.

The CIQS group will host their own Quilts of Valor presentation at 2:00 Saturday, September 26, at the Marshalltown Mall. They will honor 17 Veterans with patriotic quilts pieced and quilted by guild members. The presentation will be in conjunction with a quilt show featuring over 50 quilts made by CIQS members. All quilts including the Quilts of Valor will be displayed at the Mall a week prior to the Sept. 26th show.

September 1st will be the next regular meeting in which Art Specialist: Julie Bousum will be decoding “Color Theory and Patterns”. Persons who have an interest in quilting are urged to come. Meetings consist of refreshments, a short business meeting, various programs related to quilt making as well as show and tell. The group also holds small interest groups, annual retreats, and community service projects.

CIQS meets at 6:00PM the first Tuesday night of each month at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 1011 South 3rd Ave.  To learn more, go to www.centraliowaquiltsew-ciety.webs.com
